5 New Year Home Decor Resolutions

Oh 2015… where have you gone? It seriously seems like just last week we were clinking our glasses together to welcome you and now it’s time to bring out the bubbly again!

I can bet my bottom dollar that many of you are looking at the new year as a ‘clean slate’. Unsurprisingly, the most common resolution of 2015 was ‘to loose weight’. No brainer, hey. But what about resolutions that can change your surroundings, uplift your home environment and make you feel relaxed and at ease.

Ready to sign up? Simply follow our five home decor resolutions and get ready for that clock to strike twelve!

1. I WILL NOT Have Clutter

If you’re reading this, then you probably have a lot of clutter. **My hand is firmly raised for this one** I hate to break it to you; but psychologists have actually found physical clutter in the home to lead to mental clutter. Ouch! Let’s make 2016 clutter free!

Step One

Ask yourself; do I really need this? Bye-bye used bus tickets, expired makeup and hazardous liquids.

Step Two

Do the 12, 12, 12 challenge! Throw away 12 things, donate 12 and relocate 12. Yay: 36 pieces of junk sorted!

Step Three

Organize! If you need it, categorize your random bits and bobs into labelled jars, boxes and baskets. If you want a pretty, but cheap storage solution, why not cover an old tissue box with one of our deluxe covers? Junk has never looked so pretty!

2. I WILL Use More Color

3. I WILL Have A Special Chill-Out Area Just For Me

Once upon a time, a few decades ago, someone came up with the idea of a ‘man cave.’ Although the name itself may be a little out dated, the concept is still going strong. We may love our family/other half/ housemate to the end of the earth, but we all need that bit of me time. And 2016 is the year to find a space in your home to set up that special area for yourself.

Here’s a few ideas to get you started…

Hammock Haven

If you are lucky enough to live in a warm climate, a DIY relaxing area is quicker and easier than you thought! As a matter of fact, you only need one core ingredient: a hammock!

Hang your hammock in your patio or veranda for a cosy and relaxing get-away. Surround with luscious, tropical greenery and hanging plants for that ‘vacation’ feel. To add more comfort and style, add tropical printed cushions. Simply adorn your favorite cushions or pillows with the jacquard paisley pillow covers and elegant dahlia pillow covers.

Reading Nook

Why not add a cute and cosy reading nook to your home? Simply find a little part of your house that is not being used for another purpose and transform it into your own, personal, haven!

A slanted roof and a corner make a perfect, little nook. To re-create the cosy, yet-minimalist vibe of our inspiration photo, add a dark, fluffy rug. Next, make it even cosier with 6-7 decorated cushions. We recommend the crisp and modern, damask and geometric styles.

4. I WILL Transform My Surfaces

Are you really gonna let that scratched table or coffee-stained book case make it into 2016 without a little makeover? Don’t fret! No new furniture is needed…. It’s all about the DIY make over..

Scratched or Stained Table?

Pop a fancy table cloth over it and everyone will be none the wiser! The hand embroidered table cloth will work wonders for kitchen tables!

The round shape of this hand painted floral table cloth makes it suitable for coffee tables, foot rests and everything in-between!

Bored of your bed table?

A place mat will add a bit of spunk to that surface! Plus: you can totally wash it when it gets dirty. The result? A fabulous bed table for all of 2016.

5. I WILL Have Fun With My Home Decor
